Nokia N73 Review (Unlocked)
Multimedia Phones — On July 16, 2010 at 10:31 amCamera phones have come a long way now and I can confidently say that Nokia is ahead amongst all other manufacturers in this segment. The entire N series is more like a multimedia computer, the lenses are of high quality and they offer lots of features for the camera. Before I start my Nokia N73 Review, i would like tell that the phone is a successor to N70 and for this phone, the company has put in a better 3.2 megapixel camera and the internal memory too is increased. Along with that, the N73 has music playback, Bluetooth and lots of productivity tools all based on Symbian OS platform. All this seems really interesting but my interest faded later on when I got sluggish performances in my labs. It is not a deal breaker but some people might get frustrated with the occasional delays. There are no carriers for Nokia N73 right now, it comes unlocked and you will have to pay a huge $600 for the unlocked model. The N73 is based on a candy bar design and you have two color options deep plum/silver and metallic red/frost white. I got the latter in my labs for review. Both the models have the same dimensions – 4.3 x 1.9 x 0.7 inches and its weight is 4/1 ounces. This is not the most compact phone I have ever seen but it still acceptable considering the impressive features inside. The handset has a solid construction and it feels really good to hold the phone in the hand.

The display is 2.4 inches big (measured diagonally) and you get a resolution of 240×320 pixels along with support for 262,144 colors. The colors are really bright and the images and text too look sharp. During my Nokia N73 Review i found that the screen is not too bad in direct sunlight, you will be able to read from it easily. You can adjust the backlight time and display theme but font size cannot be changed. This will definitely disappoint people with vision problems.
Below the display, there are the navigation controls and numerical keypad. The former is made up of two soft keys, Talk/End buttons, five direction joystick for menu scrolling. For selecting an item, you just have to press this joystick once. The numeric pad is flanked by two buttons on both the sides. These are the Edit, Menu, Multimedia and Clear keys. Except for these four buttons, all the other keys are a bit small and typing on them is not that easy. I was also disappointed to see that there was 1.4 inch vacant gap between the keypad and screen. This space could have been used for a spacious keypad. I had a lot of misdials and also launched some unwanted apps occasionally. On the bright side, the backlighting is bright and nice.
On the right, the Nokia N73 has camera button, review button for the gallery, and volume rocker which can also be used to zoom in and out of photos. On the bottom, there is a miniSD card slot and it comes with a cover. However, it is a bit difficult to open. Hence I would advice you to grow your nails a bit. On the bright side, I am happy that Nokia put the card slot in a position that is easily accessible. Usually they put it behind the battery cover.
On the Nokia N73′s back, there is a camera button which has a plastic cover. Just slide the cover down and the camera will get activated. The screen automatically goes in to the landscape mode when you open the camera cover. I would recommend you to place the phone in horizontal mode for taking pictures. It may take some time to get used to it but it will be fine after some time. There is another camera close above the display for video calling.
Nokia N73 comes with reference material, Nokia PC Suite software, wipe cloth, wrist strap, stereo headset, USB cord, and AC adapter. I wish the manufacturer put in a memory card too.
Nokia calls all N series phone multimedia computer and this tag suites to the Nokia N73 because it has lot of imaging capabilities. There is no limit to phone book entries as long as you are not running out of memory space. The SIM card lets you put in another 250 contacts. A single entry can take multiple phone numbers, home and work addresses, birthday, e-mail addresses, etc. For the caller ID, the handset lets you assign a photo to the contact and you can choose from one of the 30 ringtones. No beofre i conclude my Nokia N73 Review lets look at some of the pros and cons of the phone.
Pros:
3.2 megapixel camera which records video too, integrated music player, Bluetooth, vibrant screen, speakerphone. The phone also has good battery life and call quality.
Cons:
Keypad is cramped, the phone is sluggish occasionally, no Wi-Fi
Outcome:
This is an excellent phone but the sluggish performance keeps me from recommend it to you.
